I am implacably opposed to any expansion of Lydd Airport that requires the runway to be lengthened. I play as full a part as possible in the campaign against the expansion. The jobs created will be at a very high environmental cost. The expansion is wrong at national/international level aviation emissions are the fastest growing source of greenhouse gases. It is wrong at regional level we already have an airport at Manston that is struggling to emerge as a centre for commercial passenger air travel. It is wrong at local level the roads and other infrastructure are totally inadequate to support the expansion and the Marsh is a unique environment that must be protected.
As regards Nuclear power, I have very strong reservations about the storage and processing of nuclear waste. Instead, I believe that there should be massive investment in micro generation systems. These should be compulsory on all new builds and should be encouraged on existing buildings through the tax system |
