With reference to your letter of the 14 April 2007 my response to your specific questions is conditional on the understanding that they will be printed in full and not altered or adulterated in any way and is as follows:- I object to the proposed extension of the runway and expansion of Lydd Airport and voted against it at the recent New Romney Town Council meeting and the local referendum. I do not believe that the expansion of the airport would bring an increased number of quality jobs to the local community. Because of its location and the specialist nature of the Aviation Industry, all skilled workers would have to be imported and as such would commute from outside the area. I do not oppose the building of a replacement power station at Dungeness for the following reasons:- Renewable energy from what ever source does not and cannot provide a guaranteed supply of electricity. A local power source (power station) is required in East Kent in order to stabilise the National Grid Network in South East England. It is historically proven that power stations provide a large range and number of quality jobs for the local communities. The environment agency has publicly declared a programme of sea defence upgrading to ensure protection of Romney Marsh to an incident of one in two hundred years standard. RA Joynes
